Allegro DVT now shipping 3rd generation H.264/MPEG-4 AVC/MVC high-definition video encoding IP core
September 9, 2010 -- Allegro DVT announces the immediate availability of the 3rd Generation of its H.264/MPEG-4 AVC/MVC high- definition hardware video encoding IP. Already licensed to a major IC vendor, it offers ultra-low latency encoding and drastically improved video quality.
The Allegro DVT H.264 IP core is a real-time hardware (RTL) encoder targeting mobile phones, camcorders, set-top boxes, webcams and video surveillance applications. The IP core uses Allegro DVT H.264 proprietary compression algorithms originally designed for high quality broadcast applications. The Allegro DVT IP core can process pictures up to high-definition resolutions and can encode several channels simultaneously.
The Allegro DVT H.264 encoding IP delivers HD quality with encoding/decoding latency as low as 1 ms, as required by latency-critical systems such as HDMI wireless links and automotive and industrial applications.

Allegro DVT research engineers have been working hard to deliver break-through video quality. The Allegro DVT IP core now implements improved support for:
- Hierarchical and adaptive B-picture support
- Macroblock level quantization and configurable scaling lists
- Advanced CBR/VBR Rate Control
- Accurate CBR Rate Control
- Adaptive VBR Rate Control
- Interlaced Coding (Picture Adaptive Frame Field)
Last but not least, our IP core provides support for H.264 Multiview Video Coding (MVC) Stereo High Profile up to Level 4.1. H.264 MVC is the emerging standard for delivery of 3D stereoscopic content, selected by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA). It reduces the total video bitrate by avoiding the encoding of multiple H.264/AVC streams.
