Ralink Selects AuthenTec SafeXcel Packet Engine to Enhance Security of Newest RT Series Communications ICs
SafeXcel™ EIP-93 Ensures Enhanced Security Including IPsec VPN and SSL Security in xDSL Wi-Fi Gateways that Incorporate Ralink’s xDSL CPE Series IC
MELBOURNE, Fla., June 28, 2011 – AuthenTec (NASDAQ: AUTH), a leading provider of security and identity management solutions, today announced that Ralink Technology Corporation (Ralink) will utilize its SafeXcel EIP-93 packet engine for enhanced security in Ralink’s xDSL Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) ICs. AuthenTec’s SafeXcel EIP-93, the smallest IPsec and SSL-capable packet engine, along with AuthenTec’s industry leading QuickSec software toolkit, helps enable VPN security in xDSL Wi-Fi gateways requiring strong security.
“Our goal was to create a very capable and secure IC that would allow the leading gateway providers to bring products quickly to market while meeting today’s new IPsec standards, which is why we chose to integrate AuthenTec’s proven packet engine in our new xDSL CPE chipsets,” said David Borison, Vice President of Marketing at Ralink. “AuthenTec has earned its strong reputation in embedded security, and we appreciate their technical support as we add this innovative new IC to our expanding xDSL CPE products.”
“Ralink is a key player in the networking market, and we are pleased that our EIP-93 packet engine has been selected to provide important security functionality in its new RT Series IC,” said Dr. Simon Blake-Wilson, Vice President of AuthenTec Embedded Security Solutions. “Strong security remains a critical concern, particularly in Wi-Fi gateways, and the addition of our offering should help give network equipment providers added confidence that Ralink’s newest communication IC supports the latest security standards and algorithms.”
The SafeXcel EIP-93 packet engine is a comprehensive security accelerator, providing balance between gate count, performance and available algorithms. It helps accelerate the protocol functionality for Internet Protocol Security (IPsec), Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), Transport Layer Security (TLS), Datagram TLS (DTLS), and Secure Realtime Transport Protocol (SRTP). The engine supports a wide variety of today’s most important crypto algorithms, including DES, 3DES, AES 128/192/256, SHA1, SHA-224/256, AES-CCM, ARC4 and MD5.
Ralink’s total networking solution, centered on ADSL/VDSL customer premises equipment (CPE) chipsets, supports a wide range of applications: single-port bridges, routers, 802.11n gateways. Moreover, Ralink offers a comprehensive software design kit fully compliant with telecommunications standards. Thanks to its consistent quality and superior central office equipment interoperability, Ralink has won extensive trust of telecommunications partners throughout the world.
AuthenTec's complete security offering includes fingerprint sensors, identity management software, hardware IP, and encryption software for mobile and networking applications. AuthenTec’s solutions ensure security and user identity from the client to the cloud, and are deployed by the world’s leading companies including Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Fujitsu, HBO, HP, IBM, Motorola, Orange, Samsung, Siemens, and Texas Instruments among many others.
