Do you know what IPMX means?

IPMX addresses the ProAV industry’s need for a single set of common, ubiquitous standards-based protocols that ensure interoperability for AV over IP

IPMX (Internet Protocol for Media Experience) is a set of open standards and specifications to enable the carriage of compressed and uncompressed video, audio and data over IP networks. It includes provisions for control, copy protection, connection management and security.

IPMX means dynamic, professional video over standard IP networks, including 4K video at 60 frames per second and 4:4:4 color with just 1-Gb/s bandwidth.

It’s a truly open standard, with everyone involved taking pains to ensure that every piece of equipment built to the IPMX specification works with every other piece, that they are truly interoperable.

IPMX and intoPIX JPEG-XS : High quality, cost-effective, bandwidth-efficient AV over IP Installation

The combination of IPMX and intoPIX JPEG XS allows achieving more than proprietary Pro-AV protocols, while preserving low latency & high quality with super-low complexity: it offers upgrade capability to new formats (4K/8K) on existing cables (CAT5e). Interoperability is guaranteed thanks to the use of open SMPTE ST2110 & IPMX standards.

intoPIX has developed both TicoXS including JPEG XS High Profile and the TicoXS FIP including JPEG XS with the new Flawless Imaging Profile for building the best IPMX workflows.

Read the VSF TR08 : Technical Recommendation for JPEG XS over SMPTE 2110-22 & IPMX

This recommendation includes both information regarding IPMX Timing & IPMX Capability Set information using JPEG XS .

  • IPMX JPEG XS Video Senders shall conform to type W in SMPTE ST 2110-21, while Receivers shall implement the timing model defined in VSF TR-10-1.
  • IPMX Capability Sets and Interoperability Points are also defined to support amongst other parameters : 4:4:4, 4K, 8K, HDR, etc.

Why has IPMX gotten such a positive response?

IPMX addresses the ProAV industry’s need for a single set of common, ubiquitous standards-based protocols that ensure interoperability for AV over IP” said David Chiappini, chair of the AIMS ProAV Working Group. “As the ProAV world increasingly moves toward IP networking, an understanding of IPMX and enabling standards and specifications is essential"

The IPMX Components

IPMX consists of the complete SMPTE 2110 body of hardware standards, NMOS registration, discovery, software standards, plus additional standards and specifications to meet the needs of the proAV industry. It’s being promoted by AIMS, a not-for-profit industry consortium dedicated to bringing an open-standards approach to the Pro AV and entertainment industries.
