China bars Micron ICs destined for key infrastructure

Yesterday, China barred Micron from selling memories to suppliers of key domestic infrastructure following a security review.

China’s cyberspace regulator said that Micron had failed its network security review but did not say on what grounds.

As most of Micron’s China sales are to consumer chstomers it may not hit Micron particularly hard.

“We firmly oppose restrictions that have no basis in fact,” says the U.S. Commerce Department, “this action, along with recent raids and targeting of other American firms, is inconsistent with assertions that it is opening its markets and committed to a transparent regulatory framework.”
