On 7 May 2024, Lam Research Corp., a global supplier of innovative wafer fabrication equipment and services for the semiconductor industry, officially opened its new state-of-the-art automated warehouse in Batu Kawan, complementing Lam’s manufacturing operations in Malaysia, home to the company’s largest manufacturing facility. Utilising advanced systems, technologies, and robots, working in concert with Lam employees, this new warehouse facilitates the efficient management of an extensive inventory of parts that are essential for producing Lam’s leading-edge wafer fabrication tools. The new facility’s automated storage systems enable optimal utilisation of vertical space, which only occupies a quarter of the footprint as compared to a standard warehouse implementation. This establishment speaks for the State’s supportive and matured ecosystem, which enables the semiconductor sector to expand and achieve greater heights.

Today, Penang unveils plans for its IC Design and Digital Park. This park will be offering 1 million square feet of premium office space to house high-impact projects including IC Design, R&D, Global Business Services, digital technologies investments, and a circular digital economy ecosystem. Spanning 105-acre in Bayan Lepas Industrial Park, this project will be conducted in two phases with a total cost of RM655 million. Phase one, involving two pioneering office buildings, namely GBS By The Sea and GBS Techspace is expecting to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2024. Phase two, involving an establishment of an additional building, GBS@TechnoPlex, which is targeted to be ready by 2027. The Penang State Government is in progress to formulate an incentive package to strategic investors who are interested in further enhancing and complementing the hub. In addition, the State will also be applying to Federal Government to obtain the incentive/grant to strengthen the current ecosystem. Through these efforts, Penang commits to continue to deliver exceptional infrastructure, conducive facilities and attractive amenities to anchor Penang’s pioneer position in the IC design and digital industries. Life Energy Motion (LEM), an electrical measurement technology specialist, unveiled a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility today at Penang Science Park North with an investment of approximately RM78 million. This new start-of-the art facility combines environment-friendly design with advanced manufacturing technology, features the latest logistic system including automatic guided vehicles (AGVs). This new high-tech plant aims to meet the increasing global demand for LEM’s core products, current and voltage sensors. Aligned with the company’s expansion plan, LEM expects to increase the current head count of 70 people to more than 200 people by March 2025.
