Synopsys DesignWare® Medium Density Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) IP, an alternative to embedded flash memory, provides up to 512 kbits of on-chip memory in standard CMOS and BCD processes without requiring additional masks or processing steps.
The NVM IP eliminates the need for external Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) or flash memory when integrating microcontrollers in analog IC designs such as smart sensors, power management and touchscreen controller applications.
Delivered as a hard IP block, the DesignWare Medium Density NVM IP includes all the necessary support and control circuitry, including all high-voltage generation and distribution required for programming. Also included are test modes that reduce the required test time and improve production test coverage as well as a comprehensive validated test flow to accelerate time-to-market.
The DesignWare Medium Density NVM IP delivers more than 5X the density compared to lower bit-count NVM solutions and offers less than 40 nanoseconds access time for fast read times and real-time computing. The NVM IP supports more than 10 years of data retention and 1,000 write cycles with program and read operation from -40°C to 125°C. Both read and program operations are performed on 32- bit words.
The Medium Density NVM IP offers versions with and without ECC functionality. The NVM IP with ECC functionality provides additional system reliability using single bit detect and double bit correct. Synopsys characterizes and qualifies the NVM IP to meet or exceed third party standards (specifically JEDEC, AEC-Q100 and TSMC IP9000).
