Arm’s top CPU architect Mike Filippo has left the company after ten years to join Apple.

At Arm he was responsible the development of  the Cortex-A76, A72, and A57, and Arm’s Hercules-AE automotive  CPU.

Before joining Arm, Filippo worked for AMD and Intel.

The move is teported to be related to Apple’s plans to replace Intel processors with Apple-designed processors in MacBooks.

The move is also seen as a replacement for Apple’s top chip designer Gerard Williams III who left Apple in March.
