TSMC allocates $6bn for 2nm capacity in Taiwan

At a board meeting earlier this week, TSMC allocated $6 billion for building leading edge capacity in  Taiwan.

Some of the money will go towards TSMC’s second site for 2nm  production which is under construction in Kaohsiung.

The company’s initial  volume production on the 2nm process will be in Hsinchu starting in 2025, with the  first 1000 test wafers run in Hsinchu this year.

The third TSMC site for 2nm production could be in Taichung where the company is said to be looking for a site.

TSMC’s  first customers for 2nm are said to be Apple and Nvidia.

  1. Great news.
TSMC was Xilinx FPGA mfg, are they still now that AMD bought Xilinx?

    • Xilinx has always made sure its designs can be easily ported to several processes so as to get best price/performance. They’ve definitely used Samsung and UMC in the past, but I think at the moment most are made at TSMC, especially the bleeding edge “cost as much as a house” devices.
