Winbond releases 8bit MCU and 32bit SoC
Winbond had previously accumulated a great deal of experience in designing and integrating SoC solutions. Based on strong customer demand, Winbond acquired the full licensing from ARM®to provide the highly integrated W90P710 / W90N745 general-purpose SoC and its corresponding total solution. A wide range of complete SoC solutions are also planned to meet the long-term needs of customer products.
Winbond's W90P710 / W90N745 uses the ARM7TDMI microprocessor core manufactured using a 0.18um process. During normal operations it can reach frequencies of 80MHz, while the 176Pin/128-Pin LQPF packaging provides improved power conservation and lower cost. The W90P710 / W90N745 comes with 4KB Cache. These can also be set by product developers to serve as On-Chip RAM if necessary.
The W90P710 / W90N745 incorporates a very flexible External Bus Interface that allows direct access I/O components such as ROM, Flash, SDRAM and PCMCIA Card. W90P710 even provides for screen displays a high definition TFT/STN LCD controller. Apart from USB and EBI, W90P710 / W90N745 also provides 4 UART interfaces that customers can design to connect to more equipment such as a bar-code scanner, VFD module, debug port and Bluetooth® module.
In terms of system integration, apart from POS (Point-of-Sale) applications, the W90P710 is also suitable for data collectors, electronic picture frames or other products that utilize a LCD display. The W90N745 on the other hand is suited to network applications such as management switch, IP camera, VoIP and printer server.
Apart from the 32bit SoC, Winbond Electronics is also releasing the 8-bit LPC MCU W79E82x series. This includes the W79E825, W79E824, W79E823, W79E822 and W79E821, with the series designed for MCUs that require a small packaged size, little I/O and small Flash memory capacity. These are suited to standard industrial products such as UPS, power supply control, charger and access security. Customers are now placing samples of this design solution.
The advantage of the series is its high processing speed as it can achieve up to 2.5 times the performance of the traditional 8051 at the same operating frequency. It can reach processing speeds of up to 20MHz, with 1K to 16K of internal Flash ROM and a small 20pin packaging, making it suitable for different categories of products. It also incorporates the Watch Dog Timer allowing different scheduling settings and a low power voltage reset function, providing customers with a more reliable product that satisfies the need for high quality.
The Winbond W79E82x series is also designed for products that require high noise immunity. Its internal protective circuitry has been reinforced to meet the requirement of working environments. PWM output is also provided to control motor RPM ensuring optimal wear. Apart from the above, the W79E82x series also offers 4 channels ADC (analog-to-digital converter) for capturing external signals. The I/O pins are equipped with interrupts providing real-time processing response.
The product's development environment also includes the JTAG emulator, software development system, compiler and supporting documentation. This comprehensive development suite will help designers to shorten product development cycles and entry into the market quickly. Choose the W79E82x series, its ICP (In Circuit Program) function can be used to update the system online through the compiler, improving its flexibility and expandability for customers.
Winbond has for many years devoted itself to development of more advanced and competitive SoC solutions to meet different customer requirements. Through ceaseless effort, we ensure that our customers's products are more competitiveness in the market and have a good reputation, resulting in a win-win situation for both parties.
