In recent years there has been a concerning rise in the complexity of security attacks across the globe, especially physical hardware attacks.
Hackers are adopting increasingly sophisticated techniques, going beyond the software or network and exploiting vulnerabilities within the hardware. These attacks encompass a wide range of physical manipulations, including voltage and clock glitching and thermal tampering, and more advanced attacks based around electromagnetic fault injection (EMFI) and laser fault injection (LFI).
Implementing effective anti-tamper safeguards against EMFI and LFI attacks is rarely straightforward, often requiring a trade-off between high-sensitivity and the risk of false positives. Fortunately, new developments in analogue IP are addressing these challenges, delivering sensors that complement digital Root of Trust (RoT) solutions to offer superior levels of protection against the next generation of hardware threats.
