Aware, Inc. Announces Ikanos Communications, Inc. as New Licensee
Ikanos purchases product lines from Analog Devices, Inc.
BEDFORD, Mass. – January 13, 2006 – Aware, Inc. (NASDAQ: AWRE), a worldwide leader and innovator of broadband intellectual property, today announced Ikanos Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:IKAN) as an Aware licensee, subject to the closing of Ikanos’ purchase of the network processor and ADSL ASIC product lines of Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI). Ikanos announced earlier today that it is acquiring the products that ADI and Aware have co-developed based upon Aware’s technology, including the market-leading StratiPHY2+™-based CPE (customer premise equipment) ADSL2+ products.
“ADSL2+ is an important mainstream broadband technology, and we are excited about strengthening our product portfolio through the addition of Aware’s StratiPHY2+ technology, which will enable us to capitalize on growth in the ADSL2+ CPE market,” said Rajesh Vashist, chairman and CEO of Ikanos Communications. “We look forward to working with Aware to support the customer base, and to bring new products to market to meet evolving customer needs.”
“We are pleased to have Ikanos as a licensee of our StratiPHY2+ technology,” commented Michael Tzannes, CEO of Aware. “With our new relationship with Ikanos, we look forward to a seamless transition and to working with Ikanos to continue supporting their customers and bringing new technologies to the market.”
Aware’s StratiPHY2+ intellectual property has achieved broad acceptance in the marketplace. It contains all the requisite technology for semiconductor and vertically integrated system vendors to rapidly incorporate ADSL2/2+ into their customer premises equipment (CPE) product offerings. Over 2.5 million ADSL2+ CPE units based upon StratiPHY2+ have shipped, primarily in Europe to France Telecom. StratiPHY2+ is the DSL engine that drives ADI’s EaglePLUS™, EagleIV and Fusiv-AT™ ADSL2/2+ CPE chipsets. StratiPHY2+ is compliant with ADSL2 and ADSL2+ as well as legacy ADSL ITU standards.
Ikanos is acquiring all the rights and obligations associated with the Aware technology licensed by ADI. Compensation to Aware associated with the purchase of ADI’s product lines was not disclosed.
