Xilinx Chooses SiliconSystems as Preferred Storage Supplier for System ACE Development Environment
SiliconDrives to ship with all Xilinx System ACE ML4 development systems
ALISO VIEJO, Calif., April 18, 2006 — SiliconSystems, Inc., the world leader in advanced storage technology, today announced it will supply Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) its SiliconDrive technology for the programmable logic device leader's System Advanced Configuration Environment (System ACE™). SiliconDrives will be bundled with all Xilinx System ACE ML4xx development systems. The System ACE series from Xilinx offers designers a pre-engineered solution to manage the configuration of its Virtex™ and Spartan™ FPGA-based systems. SiliconSystems was chosen as the preferred storage supplier based on the company's advanced storage technology.
Beginning in April, the Xilinx System ACE development system will include a removable SiliconDrive. When used with the Xilinx ML4 development system, SiliconDrive provides the necessary storage required in the system development process for code and application data, easing the design process and creating a seamless path from the development environment to production. In addition, SiliconSystems' patented PowerArmor technology, which is integrated into every SiliconDrive, gives Xilinx customers the added benefit of eliminating drive corruption from power disturbances, further protecting System ACE FPGA program files.
"Xilinx has recognized that not all storage products have been engineered for the enterprise system OEM market which requires solid-state storage technology that goes far beyond traditional flash card products to solve daunting storage issues such as drive corruption and costly forced re-qualifications," said Gary Drossel, director of product marketing for SiliconSystems. "We are excited to join forces with an industry leader such as Xilinx to advance our SiliconDrive technology into applications that will benefit from its innovative features."
"SiliconSystems was selected based on its superior SiliconDrive technology, which provides the advanced features required for high-density system level designs," said Ed McGettigan, director of systems engineering for the Advanced Products Division at Xilinx. "Incorporating SiliconDrive into our solution provides our customers with the ultimate development tool for FPGA designs."
About SiliconDrive
SiliconSystems' patented SiliconDrive is breakthrough storage technology engineered to overcome problems associated with hard drives and flash cards that were originally designed for the consumer electronics and personal computer markets. SiliconDrive technology is engineered to exceed the high performance, high reliability and multi-year lifecycle requirements of the Enterprise System OEM market. PowerArmor and SiSMART technologies integrated into every SiliconDrive eliminate field failures from power disturbances, prevent costly product re-qualifications and provide enhanced security to protect application data and software IP, resulting in a lower total cost of ownership.
About Xilinx System ACE (Advanced Configuration Environment)
Xilinx System ACE, a drop-in configuration solution for most FPGA configuration needs, is the recommended solution for system level designs, high-density and multiple FPGA applications. The System ACE CF provides additional advanced features that reduce development time. System ACE CF supports most CompactFlash cards and one-inch Microdrive disk drive technology as the storage medium, with a built-in microprocessor interface to coordinate FPGA configuration directly with system requirements. With unprecedented density ranging to over 8 Gbps, one System ACE CF can configure hundreds of FPGAs and replace arrays of configuration PROMs.
