Altera's Stratix II FPGAs Now Qualified for Military Temperature Grade
San Jose, Calif., March 27, 2007—Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced military temperature grade qualification for all package options of its 90-nm, high-performance Stratix® II FPGA device family.
Altera qualifies Stratix and Stratix II devices across the commercial, industrial and military temperature ranges, and verifies that they perform within stringent specifications. The company provides military temperature range operation by extending the industrial-grade Stratix II devices to an operating range of -55°C to +125°C. Using standard industrial devices for military operation enables major price and lifecycle advantages compared to dedicated military devices. Military temperature support is offered for the EP2S15, EP2S30, EP2S60 and EP2S90 members of the Stratix II family.
“The inherent flexibility and off-the-shelf availability of FPGAs offer clear cost and time-to-market advantages to military applications designers,” said Don Faria, Altera’s senior vice president, business units. “Altera offers a significant added value through our unique offering, which is specifically tailored to the military and aerospace market.”
Airborne electronic warfare (EW) systems, missile and aircraft avionics and ground combat communications equipment all demand greater temperature range capabilities. Department of Defence (DOD) supplier requirements extend beyond device feature capabilities and include extended lifecycle management, increased demonstration of quality and reliability measures, longer-lead product change notice cycles and the need for increased supply chain responsiveness and responsibilities. These and other DOD supplier requirements are only addressed by Altera’s exclusive enhanced commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) approach to the military and aerospace market.
