MindTree Consulting Announces ''UltraWiz'' range of UWB IP's
MindTree’s “UltraWiz” UWB MAC silicon IP is based on the WiMedia MAC 1.0 specification and MAC-PHY interface specification V1.2 and has been validated on FPGA platform. The “UltraWiz” IP meets all mandatory and optional features and is ready for integration in a SOC platform. In addition, MindTree offers complementary test tool “UTest” for validation and testing of all mandatory and advanced features.
UWB technology is experiencing increased traction and is well on its way to becoming a mainstream technology. Industry analysts forecast that UWB would find increased penetration into devices like IP STB, Digital Still Cameras, Camcorders, HDTV’s and mobile handsets. Analysts predict UWB shipment volumes would touch 289 million in 2010 (Source: Instat) and 315 million units by 2011 (Source: ABI Research). By 2011, 20% of mobile handsets are expected to be UWB enabled (Source: Unstrung).
Certified Wireless USB based on UWB common Radio Platform is expected to eliminate the cobweb of wires behind the PC and the announcement of Wireless USB Hubs and PC Dongles from leading OEMs is a first step in this direction. The vast installed base and success of wired USB makes the ideal setting and use case for the advent of Wireless USB with the convenience of wireless connectivity. UWB is also set to provide transfer of HD video at blazing rates of 480Mbps at <3m distances.
