San Jose, CA -- September 7, 2007—Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) and PLDA SAS today announced an expanded collaboration to bring flexible solutions to the professional audio/video broadcast market. The initial result of this collaboration is the introduction of the first of a new line of intellectual property (IP) cores and the audio sample converter (SRC), which is now available free of IP license fees to qualified customers of Altera’s Stratix® and Cyclone® FPGA device families.
“In order to better serve our customers in the audio/video broadcast market, we chose to collaborate with PLDA because of their decade-plus history of bringing quality solutions to market,” said Todd Scott, senior director of Altera’s broadcast and consumer business unit. “Working closely with quality IP providers like PLDA enables us to offer our customers complete solutions that include FPGAs, development kits, mission-critical IP cores and optional design services.”
“Altera’s programmable logic solutions are very successful in the broadcast market, and PLDA is known for delivering high-quality, ‘complete product’ IP cores to the FPGA design community,” said Callan Carpenter, vice president of business development for PLDA. “Integrating SRC functionality into an FPGA eliminates the need for multiple ASSPs, reducing system cost and board space.”
The SRC Core
The SRC core is highly configurable, handles up to eight pairs of stereo signals, and converts and synchronizes most combinations of sample rates between 32 kHz and 96 kHz. An upgrade to support input and output sample rates of 192 kHz is scheduled for release in October 2007. Users can also choose between AES-EBU or I2S interfaces. The SRC features professional-grade performance with a THD+N of greater than 120 dB across its operating range. About Stratix FPGAs
Altera’s Stratix FPGA series enables designers to deliver high-performance, state-of-the-art products to market faster with lower risk and higher productivity. By combining high density, high performance, and a rich feature set, the Stratix FPGA series allows integration of more functions and maximizes system performance. The series consists of five high-performance device families—the 65-nm Stratix III, the 90-nm Stratix II and Stratix II GX, and the 130-nm Stratix and Stratix GX FPGA families. Backed by Altera’s track record as a reliable and high-quality supplier, the Stratix FPGA series provides the tools needed to design with confidence.
About Cyclone FPGAs
For cost-sensitive, high-volume applications, Altera offers the Cyclone FPGA series—the industry’s only FPGAs designed from the ground up for low cost. Each family member is individually optimized for cost and delivers a high-volume solution that’s competitive with ASICS and ASSPs. This series of FPGAs—including the 65-nm Cyclone III, 90-nm Cyclone II, and 130-nm Cyclone families—delivers a customer-defined feature set, industry-leading performance, and the lowest power consumption.
