ARC Announces The IP Industry's Lowest Power MP3 Solution and Embedded Linux for Home Media Servers and Converged Mobile Handsets
Attend ConfigCon Silicon Valley December 4th To Learn More About ARC's Low Power MP3 Solution and Direct Support of Embedded Linux 2.6 and GNU Tools
ST. ALBANS, England -- November 20, 2007 - ARC International (LSE: ARK) today announced an optimized MP3 decoder for its ARC® Sound Subsystem operating at under 7 MHz and dissipating less than 0.46 mW of power in a TSMC 90 G process. On November 15, ARC announced it is optimizing, delivering, and directly supporting versions of Embedded Linux 2.6, and GNU tools based on GCC 4.2 and future versions.
In comparison to other MP3 decoders, the next best competitive product required over 20 percent more power when performing MP3 decode than the new MP3 decoder on the ARC Sound Subsystem.* This further extends the ARC Sound Subsystem energy efficiency for MP3 playback in portable media applications where battery life is the major requirement and the key performance metrics are size, power and performance. For a copy of the complete release please go to http://www.arc.com/news/
In addition, ARC directly supporting versions of Embedded Linux 2.6, and GNU tools based on GCC 4.2 and future versions means customers can access the latest versions of open source software and direct support from the people who are the best at developing software for ARC platforms. These technologies can be used in combination with the growing amount of application specific middleware and software based on the GNU/Linux platform. *Test results based on ARC engineering analysis comparing published data from three other commercial IP Vendors' announced MP3 product offerings.
