Wi-LAN and Zonet Sign Wi-Fi License Agreement
OTTAWA, Canada – March 27, 2008 – Wi-LAN Inc., a leading technology innovation and licensing company, today announced that it has signed a six year licensing agreement with Zonet USA Corporation (Zonet) relating to Wi-LAN’s Wi-Fi patents. The license provides for the payment of a running royalty and includes a payment in respect of past sales.
Zonet is a designer and manufacturer of computer peripherals. Zonet was founded by a group of Ethernet Professionals to develop and supply to the Network / Connectivity industry. With leverages in R&D and manufacturing capabilities Zonet is aggressively developing new and user-friendly products for the ever changing world of connectivity.
“Zonet is the latest of many companies that have negotiated license agreements for our essential technology,” said Jim Skippen, President & CEO. “In just 20 months our licensing program has secured 45 license agreements. In my view this performance is an order of magnitude better than what I view as industry comparables. We are continuing active discussions with more than forty companies and we look forward to concluding additional license agreements with several of them in the near future. Every agreement, whether it is modest, medium or large in value is critically important to Wi-LAN as it builds our recurring revenue and reinforces the value of our intellectual property.”
Wi-LAN has a large and growing portfolio of more than 290 issued or pending patents.
