ASPEED Technology Purchases IP from IPextreme Core Store
CAMPBELL, Calif. – April 29, 2008 – IPextreme®, Inc., the company bringing famous IP (intellectual property) to system-on-chip designers worldwide, today announced that ASPEED Technology Inc. in Hsinchu City, Taiwan has purchased Freescale’s ColdFire® V1 through IPextreme’s Core Store™ online marketplace. The ColdFire core will be used as an embedded processor in an upcoming ASIC product.
Designed for entry-level 32-bit applications, the V1 ColdFire core is a simplified version of the V2 ColdFire core. The small-footprint V1 core is designed to deliver increased system utilization, resulting in the lowest power consumption of any ColdFire MCU product to date, while offering more than ten times the performance of 8-bit MCUs.
The low-cost point of entry coupled with ColdFire’s proven track record make this core ideal for the Taiwanese embedded market.
“The V1 ColdFire core gives us great design flexibility using microcontroller technology proven over three decades,” said Chris Lin, president of ASPEED. “Making this purchase quickly and easily online, in a few simple steps, reduced the long sales cycle we usually anticipate when purchasing quality IP with proven architecture, which will help reduce our time-to-market.”
IPextreme markets the V1 through its Core Store marketplace (www.ip-extreme.com/corestore/), which opened in January 2008. By using IPextreme’s Core Store site, customers can browse and license ColdFire MCU cores with a few quick and easy clicks. Customers also may benefit from greater flexibility in choosing technical and service support packages through the Core Store site.
