Industry's Leading GNU-based Toolchain Available Now Optimized for MIPS Cores
Sourcery G++™ from CodeSourcery Speeds MIPS-Based™ Development
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - June 25, 2008 - MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NasdaqGS: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard architectures, processors and analog IP for digital consumer, home networking, wireless, communications and business applications, today announced that a MIPS®-optimized release of Sourcery G++, a complete C/C++ development environment based on the GNU Toolchain and the EclipseTM IDE, is available now from CodeSourcery, Inc. The release supports all MIPS cores, including performance enhancements in the MIPS32® 24K® core and the superscalar MIPS32® 74KTM core, as well as other optimizations. It also adds support for non-position independent code for Linux applications, resulting in increased performance for Linux systems.
"We are pleased to partner with CodeSourcery to provide these optimized versions of the new release of its industry-leading GNU-based toolchain," said Jack Browne, vice president of marketing, Processor Business Group, MIPS Technologies. "We are committed to providing our customers with the best possible tools to get their jobs done, and the work we've done with Sourcery G++ is a great example of that. MIPS will continue to partner with CodeSourcery on toolchain optimization, and ultimately plans to integrate CodeSourcery technology into products that we sell and support."
"Increasingly, developers are realizing that spending weeks building, integrating and testing their own GNU toolchain makes little sense when they can get a low-cost, optimized, commercially available toolchain," said Mark Mitchell, chief sourcerer, CodeSourcery. "We are pleased to work with MIPS Technologies to deliver the tools MIPS developers need to quickly bring products to market. We look forward to continuing to work with MIPS on future development and toolset integration."
Sourcery G++ for MIPS is a complete software development environment based on the GNU toolchain. Sourcery G++ includes GNU C/C++ compilers, GNU assembler and linker, runtime libraries, a source- and assembly-level debugger, support for Microprocessor Debug Interface (MDI) to connect to MIPS System NavigatorTM Probes and MIPSsimTM simulator, and, optionally, an Eclipse-based IDE. Sourcery G++ runs on both Windows® and Linux hosts and is available for bare-iron and GNU/Linux development in Lite, Personal and Professional editions. Professional Edition customers receive unlimited support from CodeSourcery.
The MIPS-optimized toolchains are available for download from the CodeSourcery website at http://www.codesourcery.com/.
