CoWare and MontaVista Deliver Joint Solution to Accelerate Software Development for Linux-based Devices
Solution Enables Companies to Accelerate Linux Education, Linux Support Package Development and Linux-based Device Development, Integration and Test Using CoWare Virtual Platforms
VISION 2008, San Francisco, CA. – October 2, 2008-- CoWare®, Inc., the leading supplier of platform-driven electronic system-level (ESL) design software and services, announced today that it has partnered with MontaVista® Software, Inc., the leader in embedded Linux® commercialization, to deliver a joint solution to accelerate the development of Linux-based devices. The solution includes a reference virtual platform running MontaVista Linux and integrating MontaVista development tools, including the DevRocket integrated development environment (IDE). The solution leverages the CoWare Virtual Platform technology, and is designed to accelerate Linux education and the development of Linux support packages and Linux-based electronic devices for markets such as mobile devices, consumer electronics, and networking equipment.
To deliver the best possible product in the shortest possible time, semiconductor and electronics companies need more productive development tools and a Linux-based platform that enables them to get the most from open source. These requirements are reinforced by the rapid growth of multicore and multiprocessor hardware platforms. Software developer productivity is significantly enhanced through the use of the MontaVista DevRocket development environment and the CoWare Virtual Platform software debugging and analysis capabilities. The joint solution is available on a virtual ARM Versatile board developed using CoWare Virtual Platform technology and running MontaVista Linux. The virtual platform has also been extended to accommodate up to four ARM9 processor cores. The joint solution will enable semiconductor and electronics companies to:
- Educate their research and development teams on Linux and multicore-based software development as well as on the use of virtual platforms in the software development process.
- Accelerate the development of Linux Support Packages and the development, integration and testing of Linux-based devices
“The CoWare Virtual Platform established a solid track record in providing embedded development teams with a fast, more productive alternative to development boards,” said Joerg Bertholdt, vice president of marketing at MontaVista Software. “More developers of commercial devices use MontaVista Linux than any other commercial Linux, so by integrating MontaVista Linux and development tools with the CoWare Virtual Platform, we have enabled device engineers to combine all the advantages of MontaVista Linux with the development acceleration and cost reduction provided by CoWare.”
“With the strong momentum of MontaVista Linux as well as the growth of multicore and multiprocessor hardware platforms, development teams are searching for integrated solutions that will enable them to deliver better products faster,” said Marc Serughetti, vice president of marketing and business development at CoWare. “By integrating CoWare and MontaVista products, we are delivering the tools required by semiconductor and electronics companies to educate, develop, integrate and test their products with the highest level of productivity.”
Availability
The integrated CoWare Virtual Platform and MontaVista Linux solution will be demonstrated at Vision 2008 Embedded Linux Developers Conference in San Francisco on October 2nd and 3rd. The integrated solution is available now from CoWare and MontaVista.
