Faraday Technology and Fresco Logic Partner to Validate SuperSpeed USB PHY (USB 3.0) with SuperSpeed Digital xHCI Host and Device Controller
Companies Partner to Provide System OEMs with a Complete Solution for SuperSpeed USB
Hsinchu, Taiwan and Beaverton, OR -- November 14, 2008 -- Faraday Technology Corporation (TAIEX: 3035), a leading fabless ASIC and IP provider, and Fresco Logic, a leading Silicon IP, IC Systems and Solutions Company, today announced a partnership to validate the integration of Faraday's USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed USB) PHY IP (Physical Layer IP) with Fresco Logic's USB 3.0 xHCI Host and Device Controller IP. Fresco Logic's PHY Partner Program gives Faraday Technology an access to FPGA hardware development platforms for SuperSpeed xHCI Host and Device and PHY daughter card interface specifications which will allow Faraday's PHY IP to be tested against USB 3.0 xHCI host IP and Device IP controllers. Through the partnership, System OEMs will be equipped with a solid and open platform as a basis for their product development and a highly-integrated combination of both companies' IPs for their USB3.0 deployment.
Cohering with the success in USB2.0 market, Faraday has been committed to developing USB3.0 PHY prior to the completion of USB 3.0 specification. To ensure a robust and reliable SuperSpeed USB solution for our customers, it is especially vital to go through a system-level interoperability test in synchronization with the development of SuperSpeed USB., and the partnership is just a perfect way.
The partnership provides both pre-silicon and post-silicon validation. In the pre-silicon stage, Faraday's PHY model is integrated into Fresco Logic's test environment and a subset of PHY-oriented tests are run to ensure the interoperability between the Protocol IP and the PHY IP. In the post-silicon validation phase, Faraday utilizes the Fresco Logic xHCI Host and Device development platforms with Faraday's PHY daughter card to achieve interoperability in actual hardware. After the two phases of validation, customers can lower their design risk while implementing the SuperSpeed USB and thus accelerate their product's time-to-market.
"Based upon the abundant experience in USB market, we know deeply and always keep in mind about the customers' request and criteria, especially in terms of the interoperability. We are glad to conduct the partnership with Fresco Logic, indicating a great milestone in our USB3.0 development," said Steve Wang, Chief Strategy Officer at Faraday. "Fresco's Partner Program is a key facilitator in the SuperSpeed USB ecosystem, which makes low-risk and high-efficiency even more possible for customers. We are highly confident on our USB3.0's upcoming launch, especially with the well support by this partnership, and look forward to closer relationship in future."
"Working with Faraday to achieve interoperability and provide a complete solution is an important signal to the SuperSpeed USB ecosystem," said Jing-Fan Zhang, President and CEO of Fresco Logic. "Cooperating to provide what System Companies require to successfully deploy USB 3.0 on their products will speed up the adoption of the new standard and all our customers will benefit from the accelerating transfer speeds."
