Engineering reference designs accelerate time-to-market for new product development SAN JOSE, Calif. -- March 2, 2009 -- Nuvation, a leading Electronic Design Services (EDS) firm, introduces three new video security reference designs based on TI's new DaVinci(TM) DM357.
- "IP Cam Mini," the smallest IP Camera of its class
- "IP Cam PoE," a compact form factor IP Camera with Power over Ethernet (PoE)
- "IVS," an Intelligent Video Server for encoding and decoding audio/video in Video Security applications
Nuvation's IP Camera reference designs compress real-time, full-color 720x480 (D1) video over Ethernet at up to 30 frames per second. Nuvation's IVS can be used as an encoder from CCTV, or a low latency decoder for streamed H.264 video. The reference designs utilize TI's TMS320DM357 processor which is a highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) featuring an ARM926 processor in addition to the Fixed-Function Video Coprocessor core for video compression. The IP Camera and IVS reference designs incorporate an optimized Real-Time Linux Operating System and support Browser-configurable H.264, MPEG-4/H.263, and MJPEG codec settings. The TMS320DM357-based reference designs add to Nuvation's family of video security reference designs on TMS320DM644x and TMS320DM646x.
The reference designs feature TI's DaVinci(TM) technology which are highly integrated Digital Media system-on-chips (SoCs). TI's TMS320DM357 devices feature a fixed-function H.264/MPEG4/JPEG video coprocessor with industry-leading price-performance.
"We are pleased to be introducing this latest family of video security reference designs on TI's DM357," said Chris Hallahan, Nuvation's VP of sales and marketing. "The video security market is experiencing rapid technology advancement as customers migrate to Internet Protocol (IP)-enabled cameras and video servers, improved image quality and frame rates, H.264 compression, and the like. TI's new DaVinci DM357 sets a new price-performance standard and is available immediately in these new reference design platforms."
Nuvation's reference designs are licensed exclusively to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) engineering departments. Nuvation licensee packages include engineering specification documents, executables and firmware source code, schematics and layout files, bills of material, mechanical CAD files, test utilities, manufacturing diagrams, and other design source files. Licensees can choose to manufacture with pre-qualified EMS firms partnering with Nuvation, or through other preferred supply chains.
