Silicon Labs has revealed that its Series 3 Secure Vault security subsystem, integrated into the SiXG301 system-on-chip (SoC)—the inaugural product in the Series 3 family—has earned the world’s first PSA Level 4 certification. This milestone represents the highest level of security recognized by PSA Certified and solidifies Silicon Labs’ standing as a trailblazer in embedding robust trust and protection at the heart of connected technologies.
The PSA Level 4 certification introduces two designations—iSE/SE for isolated secure elements and ROT for Root of Trust—designed to tackle the increasingly complex and sophisticated landscape of physical attacks targeting embedded devices. Unlike earlier certification levels, PSA Level 4 addresses resilience against advanced and formerly theoretical threats such as laser fault injection, side-channel analysis, microprobing, and voltage manipulation. These attack vectors have grown from academic concerns into practical realities that demand cutting-edge countermeasures.
Silicon Labs has long been at the forefront of PSA Certified achievements. Its MG21 SoC previously became the first in the world to attain PSA Level 3 status, raising the bar for physical tamper resistance and paving the way for the advancements now seen in Level 4. Additionally, the company’s SoCs were also the first to achieve PSA Levels 1 and 2, reinforcing its track record of continuous innovation in embedded security.
To meet the rigorous demands of PSA Level 4, Silicon Labs partnered with Keysight Technologies, a leading provider of design, emulation, and testing solutions. Keysight’s advanced test and evaluation laboratories validated Secure Vault on Series 3, with their specialists praising the collaboration and highlighting the deep technical competence and agility of Silicon Labs’ engineering teams throughout the assessment process.
The resilience of the Series 3 Secure Vault and SiXG301 SoC transcends compliance with current standards. These solutions were meticulously designed for longevity—engineered to resist both present-day and emerging threats for more than a decade in deployment. With robust defenses, real-time threat monitoring, and support for over-the-air firmware and software updates, the Series 3 platform embodies a vision of security as a dynamic and evolving lifecycle rather than a fixed feature.
