ARM unveils design office for advanced chips as India pushes chip growth

www.newelectronics.co.uk, Sept. 25, 2025 –

While China and the US dominate the headlines India’s semiconductor ambitions continue to take shape and following the launch of a 3nm design centre led by Renesas, ARM has now announced a new office that will be reportedly used to accelerate advanced 2nm chip designs.

The facility is expected to develop cutting-edge chips, including 2nm technology for AI servers and smartphones, and will help to drive growth in India’s fast developing electronics sector which is now said to be worth more than $130bn.

Manufacturing output has surged six-fold since 2014, while exports are up eight-fold, and electronics is now one of India’s major export categories.

The Indian government has also announced the launch of the India Deep Tech Fund which is intended to support innovation in AI, semiconductors, biotech, and other advanced technology sectors.

Major challenges remain from a lack of critical raw materials – from silicon wafers to high-purity gases and specialty chemicals – to not having the specialised skills needed for chip fabrication and testing, but India is fast establishing itself among its peers as a leading chip manufacturer.
