Partnership Drives RISC-V Adoption in Automotive

IAR extends its RISC-V toolchain support to SiFive’s automotive E7A and S7A IP cores.

Dec. 24, 2025 –

IAR and SiFive, Inc. have announced support for SiFive’s Automotive IP portfolio within IAR’s development toolchain. With the latest release of the IAR Embedded Workbench for RISC-V, IAR has broadened its coverage beyond the E6-A series to now include the SiFive Essential E7-A and S7-A product families. This expanded support delivers automotive developers a complete, commercial-grade development environment designed to streamline workflows and shorten time-to-market.

The IAR Embedded Workbench is a widely adopted development toolchain, recognized for its advanced code optimization capabilities and highly dependable development environment. Tailored for the RISC-V architecture, the newest v3.40.2 release combines a high-performance compiler, a powerful debugger, and static analysis tools, enabling development teams to enforce industry standards such as MISRA C/C++ while improving the safety and robustness of applications built on SiFive’s automotive-grade IP.

The toolchain complies with ISO 26262 and additional automotive standards, providing certified development assurance for safety-critical systems, including intelligent driving functions and advanced cockpit platforms. It integrates seamlessly with modern development workflows, including CI/CD pipelines, cloud-based licensing, and automated debugging and testing. These capabilities support scalable and efficient development across complex, safety-critical automotive programs.

SiFive’s Automotive RISC-V IP portfolio has achieved functional safety and cybersecurity certifications across both its 32-bit E-Series and 64-bit S-Series processor families. Within this lineup, the E6-A series is designed to support real-time and safety-critical use cases, including real-time processing tasks and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
