CAST Debuts TSN-EP-10G IP for High-Performance, Time-Sensitive Networking Ethernet Designs

March 12, 2026 -

10-Gigabit Endpoint core expands CAST’s TSN portfolio for automotive, industrial, aerospace, and critical infrastructure applications

Woodcliff Lake, NJ — March 11, 2026 — CAST, a leading provider of semiconductor intellectual property cores, today announced the TSN-EP-10G Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) Endpoint IP core, extending its established TSN portfolio to support 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10 Gbps) for automotive, industrial automation, aerospace, rail, marine, and defense markets.

CAST’s new TSN-EP-10G targets high-bandwidth, time-synchronized Ethernet architectures, delivering a tenfold increase in data rate over its 1G predecessor while preserving the deterministic behavior required for real-time Ethernet systems.

“High-speed, real-time Ethernet networks are increasingly serving as the communications backbone for new systems, and these require the precise time synchronization that TSN enables,” explained Alexander Mozgovenko, CAST TSN product manager. “The determinism enabled by the TSN IP cores we offer—now at the 10 Gbps performance level—helps make it straightforward for developers to produce advanced systems that require highly reliable communication.”

Standard, non-TSN Ethernet is inherently asynchronous, offering no scheduling or predictability of packet delivery timing. TSN augments Ethernet with precise time synchronization and traffic management to enable deterministic packet delivery, especially important for mission-critical and life-safety applications.

Integrated TSN Feature Set

The TSN-EP-10G IP core integrates a low-latency Ethernet MAC with hardware support for key IEEE TSN functions, including IEEE 802.1AS-2020 gPTP Time Synchronization, IEEE 802.1Qav Credit-Based Shaper (CBS), and IEEE 802.1Qbv Time-Aware Scheduling (TAS).

Additional TSN capabilities are supported through optional modules and software, enabling features such as:

  • 802.1CB Frame Replication and Elimination for Reliability (FRER),
  • 802.1Qci Per-Stream Filtering and Policing (PSFP)
  • 802.1Qcc Stream Reservation Protocol (SRP), and
  • 802.1Qca Path Control and Reservation (PCR).

Software support for both FreeRTOS and Linux® (including gPTP stack, drivers, CLI, and integration) helps speed implementation of advanced real-time Ethernet designs.

Overall, the new 10G TSN endpoint core enables very high data rates yet ensures a stable network time base, achieving data synchronization accuracies under 10 nanoseconds.

TSN Portfolio with Flexible Integration

CAST offers a competitive TSN IP portfolio that also includes a 1G TSN Endpoint, a two-port Switched Endpoint, and a three- to twenty-four-port Switch. Sourced from Fraunhofer IPMS, these cores help customers integrate deterministic Ethernet quickly, while maintaining control over implementation, performance, and power optimization. Dozens of customers worldwide are using the TSN IP from CAST, reflecting growing adoption as Ethernet becomes the backbone of real-time, safety-critical systems.

The TSN-EP-10G interfaces with PHY devices via XGMII. It is available as synthesizable RTL for ASIC and FPGA designs and as netlists for most FPGA families. Reference designs, testbenches, and software stacks are available; contact CAST with specific project requirements.
