Cho Myung-hyun, chief executive officer of SemiFive, defined the company as an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) design company, saying it aims to pursue a business model similar to that of US firms Broadcom and Marvell, which design and mass-produce customized artificial intelligence (AI) chips for hyperscalers.
Speaking at the "SNU SIPC-Silicon Catalyst Group Global Strategy Partnership Day" held at Seoul National University on June 10, Cho said, "SemiFive is an ASIC company," adding that the company's customers are not semiconductor experts but AI specialists, set makers and cloud service providers.
