The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources and Samsung Electronics, along with domestic and overseas intellectual property (IP) companies, said on the 15th that the Semiconductor Manufacturing Support Task Force launched that day is expected to serve as a driving force for connecting Korea's fabless semiconductor ecosystem and boosting market growth.
As the government covers part of the IP costs that weigh most heavily on fabless semiconductor companies, more firms are expected to have the chance to move into mass production. The move is also expected to benefit domestic demand companies that use fabless chips, as well as Samsung Electronics' foundry business, ultimately helping the entire system semiconductor ecosystem grow. To design AI semiconductors, companies must pay IP fees to firms such as Arm, Synopsys, and Cadence, which provide the basic blueprints and software.
