Taiwan’s TSMC is solidifying its solo dominance in the global foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturing) market. As the market itself grows due to the expanding demand for artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors, TSMC accounted for a market share reaching 73%, widening the gap with second-place Samsung Electronics to 66% points.
According to market research firm Counterpoint Research on Aug. 28, the global foundry market grew by 29% in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, driven by an increase in AI semiconductor orders and the reorganization of production capacity. It was found that a supply and demand imbalance continues in both advanced and mature processes.
