Rapidus to receive $944m allocation from Japanese government for AI chip manufacturing

Chip manufacturer Rapidus is to receive an additional Y150bn ($941m) from the Japanese government in a move to strengthen the country’s semiconductor sector, reported Bloomberg.

The funding is aimed at decreasing Japan’s dependence on overseas suppliers such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC).

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (Meti) intends to request the funds for inclusion in its fiscal 2027 budget, according to an individual familiar with the matter.
