Samsung Electronics plans to outsource all additional production of conventional memory modules as it focuses its in-house capacity on high-value memory products such as high-bandwidth memory (HBM).
Samsung Electronics is strongly urging outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) partners to expand production lines to meet growing demand for conventional memory modules, according to industry sources on Sept. 15. Instead of expanding its own production capacity for DDR5 memory modules and solid-state drives (SSDs) used in PCs, servers and laptops, the company is increasing allocations to outsourcing partners.
