Mindspeed Integrates Elliptic's Gigabit per Second IPsec Engine in new Comcerto 1000 Family of Processors
Update: Synopsys Expands Security Solutions with Acquisition of Elliptic Technologies (June 29, 2015)
April 16, 2009 - Elliptic Semiconductor, a leading supplier of security intellectual property (IP) and Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced that Mindspeed has selected Elliptic’s Gigabit per second internet protocol security (IPSec) engine for use in its new low-power, Comcerto 1000 system-on-chip (SoC) processor. Working very closely over an eighteen month period, Mindspeed and Elliptic engineers were able to build a high-performance solution at cost points targeting triple play broadband home gateways, small office/home office (SOHO) and small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) virtual private network (VPN) routers. This breakthrough product is available for immediate sampling from Mindspeed. The Comcerto 1000 incorporates several powerful hardware offload engines from Elliptic, including a gigabit wire rate IPSec engine andsymmetric encryption engines for accelerating transport layer security/secure socket layer (TLS/SSL), WiMAX, secure real-time transport protocol (SRTP) and third generation partnership project (3GPP) security. The Comcerto1000 also includes a high-performance public key accelerator (PKA) engine capable of accelerating Rivest, Shamir and Adleman (RSA) and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) calculations, together with a true random number generator (TRNG).
The overall solution found in the Comcerto 1000 represents one of the most powerful solution in its class – dramatically outperforming solutions offered by competitors.
”The Comcerto 1000 combines Mindspeed’s field-proven SoC multicore architecture based on ARM® processor technology and Elliptic's state-of-the-art security engines to deliver scalable VPN performance from 100 Mbps to full-duplex 1 Gbps symmetric IPSec,” said Marco Bello, director of marketing and product management for Mindspeed’s enterprise and customer premise equipment. “The Comcerto 1000 family of pin-compatible processors provides best-in-class performance, power and cost profile allowing customers to meet various product requirements across low-, mid- and high-end market ranges.”
Commenting on the announcement, Richard White, CEO of Elliptic said: “Mindspeed and Elliptic collaborated closely on the Comcerto 1000 security engine to ensure that the teams met both the performance goal, as well as the cost objectives dictated by the target markets. Elliptic licensed Mindspeed an array of powerful security engines and in particular, adapted our IPsec engine to mesh with the Comcerto 1000 processor and memory architecture. I believe the final solution is by far the leading price/performance security design available in gateway applications.”
