Shanghai Info Micro-electronics Expands SoC Platform with Vivante GPU IP for Mobile Gaming
SUNNYVALE, Calif.-- April 21, 2009 --Vivante Corporation announced today that Shanghai Info Micro-electronics, a manufacturer of personal media players, digital photo frames and cameras, portable GPS devices, intelligent toys, and mobile computing platforms, has added Vivante scalable 2D and 3D graphics solutions to their turnkey, multimedia, system-on-chip (SoC) designs.
The silicon proven Vivante GPU IP technology enables OpenGL ES 2.0/1.1 and OpenVG graphics hardware acceleration in customer SoC designs targeting low power computing for consumer applications like personal multimedia, entertainment, and portable navigation, where the user’s visual experience makes the difference.
Albert Lee, general manager of Shanghai Info Micro-electronics said, "By adding Vivante GPU IP we can produce a system-on-chip with high-performance, desktop-quality 2D and 3D graphics ideal for portable games, photos, and other media applications. We chose Vivante because it provides both high performance and low silicon area, all within our power budget. Vivante graphics technology lets us offer personal multimedia devices with visually stunning displays."
“Increasing demand for sophisticated on-screen displays, graphical user interfaces and Internet gaming applications drives ever-more capable GPUs into a wide range of SoCs, where silicon area and performance delivered per milliwatt are the most important factors in selecting a GPU. Vivante is fueling this growth by providing a wide range of silicon proven GPU cores with the best performance per square millimeter of silicon area for each product category. This dramatic silicon area savings enables SoC vendors to differentiate a wide range of platforms with leading edge graphics performance,” said Wei-Jin Dai, CEO of Vivante Corporation. “Our partnership with Shanghai Info Micro-electronics creates excellent synergies, providing our customer with OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics in full platform solutions for minimal silicon cost.”
