MIPS Technologies Licenses Processor IP to Leader in China's Thriving DTV and Set-top Box Markets
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- April 27, 2009 -- MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard architectures, processors and analog IP for digital consumer, home networking, wireless, communications and business applications, today announced that Haier (Beijing) IC Design Co. is leveraging high-performance, low-power MIPS32(R) processor cores to power DTV and set-top box (STB) SoC designs. The company already has one MIPS-Based(TM) design, Hi2035, in mass production. Haier (Beijing) IC is an advanced technology design house addressing the growing demand for cost-effective ICs with increased functionality and performance.
"Consumer demand for sophisticated digital TVs and set-top boxes in China continues to increase at an unprecedented pace as we transition from an analog to digital infrastructure," said Mr. Yang Yan Chun, vice general manager of Haier (Beijing) IC. "The scalability, performance and low power consumption of MIPS(R) cores allows us to meet this increased demand with confidence. These cores also provide our customers with distinct competitive advantages as they introduce new generations of products to market."
"We're delighted to be teaming with Haier (Beijing) IC to develop innovative solutions for the digital home, where both of our companies hold leadership positions," said Brad Holtzinger, vice president of worldwide sales and corporate marketing, MIPS Technologies.
