RT-RK Delivers IP Solution for Android Devices -- Porting Android on DTVs and STBs
Teams With MIPS Technologies in Supporting Android Applications in Consumer Electronics, Automotive, Networking and More
NOVI SAD, Serbia, Apr 13, 2010 -- RT-RK, a leading provider of embedded system design and system software development in the field of consumer electronics, today announced successful porting of a big-endian version of the Android(TM) platform for the MIPS(R) architecture. This achievement is a milestone in Android on MIPS proliferation. Companies can now leverage the power of Android for both big-endian and little-endian versions of MIPS processors for their SoCs targeting devices such as digital TVs (DTVs), set-top boxes (STBs) and a range of other applications in the digital home and beyond.
"We are pleased to welcome RT-RK to the MIPS Alliance program, and applaud the porting services they are providing for SoCs leveraging Android on the MIPS architecture," said Art Swift, vice president of marketing, MIPS Technologies. "With Android, OEMs can quickly and cost-effectively create rich new internet-connected devices. A range of MIPS licensees are poised to benefit from the work of RT-RK."
"RT-RK continues to make modern communications available to more users, increasing ease of use and overall compatibility," said Nikola Teslic, RT-RK CTO, adding that reliable and affordable open source solutions such as Android are crucial in bringing multimedia content to end users. "Our goal is to deliver effective and intuitive internet-based applications for home entertainment that can be easily used by every household member."
The big-endian version of Android is available immediately and includes support for select MIPS-Based(TM) platforms. The source code will be publicly available on www.mipsandroid.org.
Porting services for Android on DTVs and STBs will be available from RT-RK for other MIPS-Based platforms within the next 60 days. Visit the official RT-RK website at www.rt-rk.com for more information.
