Imagination Technologies licenses high-performance multi-processor graphics processor core to Renesas Electronics
May 4, 2010 -- Imagination Technologies Group plc (LSE: IMG; "Imagination"), a leading multimedia and communications chip technologies company, reports that it has signed a multi-use license agreement with Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723; "Renesas"), a premiere supplier of advanced semiconductors, for a multi-processor core from Imagination's new POWERVR SGX Series5XT IP core family.
Renesas will deploy the technology in future system-on-chip (SoC) designs for the mobile market.
Under the terms of its licensing arrangements Imagination receives license fees and royalty revenues on shipment of SoCs incorporating Imagination's IP.
About POWERVR Series5XT
Members of the POWERVR SGX Series5XT Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) IP core family feature significant performance enhancements over the already highly successful SGX Series5 architecture. All Series5XT SGX cores are based on a second-generation Universal Scalable Shader Engine (USSE2™) that delivers significantly higher processing throughput than the earlier Series5 USSE shader engine, as well as other architectural extensions enabling low-power and high-performance for 2D, 3D and general purpose (GP-GPU) processing in either single core or scalable multi-processor (MP) solutions.
