Avalon and AppliedMicro Enable Efficient 100G Muxponder Applications
Mount Pearl, NL - July 13, 2010 -- Avalon Microelectronics, a leading developer of IP for optical transport networks (OTN) today announced the development of a 100G GMP adaptation application to interface with AppliedMicro's Yahara 10G Framer/Mapper/PHY device.
Yahara 10G Framer/Mapper/PHY device maps any 10G client to a generic pODTU-24 frame at a common clock rate for efficient implementation of 100G Muxponder application. The 100G GMP adaptation approach translates information mapped to Yahara's pODTU-24 proprietary format into standard GMP mapping. The application interfaces with multiple Yahara devices to map 10G clients to a 100G line rate.
"Avalon's 100G GMP adaptation application allows Optical Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to take advantage of the size and power savings provided by the Yahara device to enable efficient 100G muxponder applications," said Wally Haas, Avalon's Founder and CTO.
"New standards for 100G are just emerging and OEMs are eager to implement these higher transmission speeds to meet ever growing demand," said Sandeep Gupta, Vice President and General Manager of AppliedMicro's Transport and Datacom Business Unit. "Avalon's 100G GMP adaptation allows these OEMs to develop muxponder solutions to meet this growing demand and it utilizes AppliedMicro's 10G Yahara OTN framer-mapper-PHY devices which have significant design momentum in this rapidly growing area."
This collaboration between Avalon and AppliedMicro demonstrates the commitment of both companies to develop and implement technologies in the still-emergent 100G space, and adds yet another application to Avalon's growing portfolio of leading-edge 100G solutions.
