POSEDGE announces Industry's Smallest and Fastest SDIO 3.0 Device Controller
Update: Posedge Inc. has been acquired by Imagination Technologies Group plc (August 2013)
Sunnyvale, CA – July 21, 2010 – Posedge has announced the availability of soft IP core that performs Secure Digital IO (SDIO) device functionality. The PE-SDIOD3.0 is highly configurable and is fully compliant with the latest SDIO specification version 3.0. The Core supports SPI, SD1, and SD4 bit transfer modes for Non-embedded applications and 8bit transfer mode for embedded applications. The simple and flexible interface of the device controller enables the user integrate the IP into SoCs with any system bus structure.
Posedge’s SDIO 3.0 Device controller offers complete silicon proven solution and provides a significant time-to-market advantage to customers. The IP comes with the Host and Client drivers to help accelerate the integration of the core and is interoperated with third-party vendor solutions.
“The SDIO 3.0 Device Controller further expands our portfolio of SD/SDIO/eMMC solutions and supports data transfer rates of four times higher than the earlier SDIO standard version 2.0” said Surya Hotha, Director of Marketing & Business Development at Posedge. “The Controller is highly optimized and provides the Industry’s lowest area metric of 14K gates and fastest data transfer rates of up to1.664Gbps”.
Posedge’s SDIO 3.0 Device Controller is designed to operate at a maximum frequency of 208MHz and to achieve throughput of 832Mbps for Non-embedded applications and can be configured to achieve throughput of 1.664Gbps enabling faster data transfer rates for embedded SDIO applications. The IP supports scatter gather DMA functionality, up to 7 functions, Suspend/Resume commands, Asynchronous Interrupt, Continuous SPI Interrupt, Variable block sizes, CRC7 and CRC16 checksum, Multi block read and write operation, automatic response generation. The IP is fully backward compatible to earlier SDIO standards.
The SDIO 3.0 Device Controller IP core can be used in various applications including, but not limited to -
- High Definition Video
- WiFi (802.11a/b/g/n), LTE, and WiMax
- SDIO Bluetooth
- SDIO GPS
Posedge provides, as part of the IP licensing package, Verilog RTL code, self-checking OVM based testbench and testcases, synthesis scripts, reference drivers, elaborate documentation with functional coverage results, and extensive customer support. Posedge also offers a suite of design services for customization and integration of the IP cores into customer’s ICs or FPGAs for prototyping.
