MIPS Technologies Joins With Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation to Foster IC Design Innovation
Availability of MIPS(R) Processor Cores Reduces Design Risk for Startups in Asia Pacific
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 17, 2010 -- MIPS Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer, home networking, wireless, communications and business applications, today announced it is teaming with Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC) to ease SoC design for startups in Asia Pacific. Through the agreement, high-performance MIPS32® processor cores—including the MIPS32 4Kc®, M4K®, 4KEc® and 24KEc™ cores in a range of processes—will be available to HKSTPC clients as part of the organization's Multi Project Wafer (MPW) and Pilot Production programs.
HKSTPC's Integrated Circuit Design Centre offers a wide range of IP services, including licensing, integration and verification. Availability of the MIPS cores through the HKSTPC portal will enable start-ups and small/medium design companies to reduce up-front risk in cost and technology selection during SoC development.
"HKSTPC provides its clients with access to the industry's most advanced technologies to speed SoC design, and we are pleased to offer access to the MIPS® architecture, the leading processor architecture for the digital home," said Mr. E. Anthony Tan, CEO of HKSTPC. "HKSTPC is dedicated to fostering technological innovation and strengthening IC development, and one of our focused areas is to nurture design innovation for start-up companies. Our clients will benefit from reduced design risk and fast time-to-market through MIPS Technologies' advanced and proven IP cores."
"HKSTPC is playing a key role in driving design innovation in Asia Pacific, and we are delighted to provide its many clients with access to our high-performance IP cores that offer a scalable basis for future development," said Art Swift, vice president of marketing and business development at MIPS Technologies. "Asia Pacific is the fastest growing region for MIPS Technologies, with our licensees there creating some of the world's most innovative SoCs for next-generation connected products. This relationship with HKSTPC will continue to drive MIPS-Based innovation and grow our already broad ecosystem of support in the region."
