Posts 100% Year-Over-Year Gain in Its Core Business
Santa Clara, Calif. –– January 31, 2011 –– Kilopass Technology Inc., a leading provider of semiconductor logic non-volatile memory (NVM) intellectual property (IP), today announced record revenue in 2010, posting 100% year-over-year growth in its core business, coming off a strong 2009 that enjoyed significant custom IP development.
“2010 was a great year fueled by a record number of new licensees, as well as current licensees coming back to Kilopass for their second- or third-generation products,” says Charlie Cheng, chief executive officer of Kilopass. “Over two billion ICs have Kilopass’ XPM™ IP integrated and has enabled functional and cost benefits to our customers. We’ve seen strong market acceptance of our newest NVM product offering Gusto and expect to see chips with Gusto™ embedded shipping in volume this year. We will continue to innovate in the logic NVM space and bring new products to market in the next 12 months.”
Notable 2010 milestones include the first Gusto NVM IP adopter at 65-nanometer (nm) process technology to design a system on chip (SoC) for multi-communication products. Introduced in June 2010, Kilopass Gusto NVM IP was the first four-megabit, one-time programmable (OTP) IP available at 65nm and below. In addition, Kilopass experienced regional growth within Asia, especially in China and Japan, and designed the first High-K Metal Gate (HKMG) chip. More details on the HKMG chip will be available later in the year.
Kilopass increased its customer base with 20 new licensees in 2010 to bring the total to more than 100. Much of the business came from repeat orders, with semiconductor manufacturers designing their second or third process generation with Kilopass’ IP for consumer electronics products that range from set-top boxes (STB), digital television (DTV) to portable media players. Mobile electronics vendors implemented Kilopass IP for a number of multi-communications, display driver and baseband products.
Major gains in new licensees were made in Asia, including China, Taiwan and Japan. In China, an increase in broadband media processor development fueled STB proliferation. In Taiwan, the display driver IC market adopted Kilopass’ cost-effective embedded NVM at 90nm and below to replace EEPROM. In Japan, where the current OTP IP solution is not scaling or working, Kilopass saw adoption of its IP for multimedia chipsets at advanced nodes of 40nm and below.
Kilopass’ focus in 2011 will be on new product innovation to address the micro controller unit (MCU) market, expansion of its direct sales force in the United States to address increased demand for embedded NVM, and the successful protection of its fundamental IP in the marketplace.
