SMIC Raises First Quarter 2012 Revenue and Gross Margin Guidance
SHANGHAI, April 9, 2012 -- Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation ("SMIC"; NYSE: SMI; SEHK: 981), one of the world's leading semiconductor foundries, is pleased to announce today an upward revision of its first quarter revenue and gross margin guidance for the three months ended March 31, 2012, which was originally released by SMIC in its results for the three months ended December 31, 2011 on February 8, 2012 (the "Original Guidance").
"Since the release of our original guidance, we have seen solid order momentum and an improved outlook from our customers across the board, exceeding our earlier expectations. We are also raising our first quarter 2012 gross margin guidance to between 10% and 12% from the original guidance of between 4% and 7%, as a result of the increased loading in our fabs," said Gary Tseng, Chief Financial Officer of SMIC.
