Express Logic's ThreadX RTOS Supports ARM and TI DSP Processors on Critical Link's MityDSP-L138F Board
San Diego, CA -- October 10, 2012 -- Express Logic, Inc., the worldwide leader in royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOS), today announced that Express Logic’s popular ThreadX® RTOS now supports Critical Link’s MityDSP-L138 board. Critical Link’s MityDSP-L138F system-on-module (SoM) combines a TI C674x floating point DSP, an ARM9 processor, and an optional FPGA. ThreadX is the first and only RTOS that runs on both the MityDSP's ARM9 and the TI C674x. This gives developers the unique opportunity to migrate applications from one processor to the other as needed without changing application code. Such flexibility complements Critical Link’s SoMs, which are easily customized to support a wide range of applications in medical, scientific, and industrial instrumentation.
ThreadX, Express Logic's small footprint, fast, royalty-free RTOS, has been deployed in over 1.25 billion electronic products in consumer, medical, and industrial applications worldwide. ThreadX supports processors from ARM, TI, and many other 32-bit architectures. Available in full source code distributions, it is configured for use with a variety of development tools including TI’s Code Composer Studio, which supports both the ARM9 and C674x DSP on the MityDSP-L138F.
“We are thrilled to combine our ThreadX RTOS and the dual-processor power of the MityDSP-L138F,” commented William E. Lamie, President of Express Logic, Inc. “ThreadX can handle both control and computational tasks within a common development and runtime environment. This simplifies the developers’ job, giving them a single RTOS that supports both processors on the MityDSP-L138F.”
“Express Logic’s ThreadX RTOS gives our MityDSP SoMs a unique level of flexibility since it runs on both processors at the same time,” said Thomas Catalino, vice president, of Critical Link. “This enables our customers to harness the power of our dual-processor architecture and to apply both processors to their application with the flexibility and common software interface that enables us to share tasks and offload processing between the processors. We are pleased to welcome Express Logic to our family of partners in support of our MityDSP SoMs.”
In addition to the MityDSP-L138F, the MityDSP SoM family includes modules built around TI’s C6748, C6711 and C645x DSPs with an optional Xilinx FPGA. Critical Link also offers the MityARM™ family with SoMs supporting TI ARM (AM335x ARM® Cortex-A8 and AM1808 ARM9) processors.
