Barco Silex releases Video over IP with JPEG 2000 Reference Design at IBC 2013
AMSTERDAM, Sept. 12, 2013 -- Following the announcement of a joint program with Xilinx® to ease the development of video over IP solutions with a comprehensive platform combining hardware-validated IP, reference designs and systems integration services, Barco Silex announced today at IBC the release of the “Multi-channel Video over IP with JPEG 2000” reference design, that is presented and demonstrated at the Barco Silex booth (Hall 10 Stand 31).
The reference design integrates the BarcoSilex JPEG 2000 Encoder and Decoder IP Cores, the Barco Silex high-performance memory controller core, along with the SMPTE 2022-1/2 and Ethernet MAC LogiCORE™ IP Cores from Xilinx now available for Xilinx 7 Series FPGAs and Zynq® All Programmable SoC. The design is able to encapsulate and de-encapsulate up to four High Definition streams (1080p60), to optionally compress or decompress those four streams with JPEG 2000, and to transport them over 1Gb/s (compression) or 10 Gb/s (uncompressed) Ethernet. The Barco Silex high-performance memory controller stitches multiple video streams of bandwidth together into a smooth, high-data rate system. Also integrated in the reference design is the JPEG 2000 codestream wrapping in MPEG-2 TS, compliant with the VSF (Video Services Forum) Technical Recommendation “Transport of JPEG 2000 Broadcast profile video in MPEG-2 TS over IP”.
“Thanks to the compactness and high-speed performance of the Barco Silex JPEG 2000 cores and Xilinx FPGA and SoC devices which integrate a suite of IP cores and functionalities, broadcast equipment OEM’s can now benefit from a hardware-proven solution to accelerate their product development with standard-compliant and high-performance Video over IP transport and JPEG 2000 coding”, said Jean-Marie Cloquet, Manager of the video coding division of Barco Silex.
“Not only can these manufacturers leverage the reprogrammable nature of Xilinx’s 7 series devices to ensure their products can comply with changes to standards, they can also take advantage of the extensive design services and video over IP expertise that Xilinx Certified Alliance Member Barco Silex offers, particularly if designs must be tailored more closely to requirements such as adding extra channels, features or capabilities, or if customers need to further accelerate the product development process.”, said Ben Runyan, Director of broadcast & consumer segment marketing at Xilinx.
The reference design is well suited for several products, most notably:
- Video over IP bridges
- Routers and production switchers
- Encoders
- Decoders
