XIMEA chooses PLDA PCIe DMA IP for their new, 5K camera application
March 28, 2014 -- PLDA, the industry leader in PCI Express® and interface IP solutions today announced that XIMEA, a leading manufacturer of machine vision systems, chose the PLDA DMA IP solution for their recently announced 5K camera application. Reasons for choosing the PLDA ip included it’s flexibility and ease-of-integration.
The XIMEA 5K custom digital camera delivers 20 megapixels and crystal clear images at 33 frames per second over distances as long as 300 meters. It is ideally suited for applications including flat panel display, printed circuit board examination, persistent stadium and border security, wide area surveillance, and aerial or city mapping. XIMEA used the PLDA IP to enable a PCIe control interface, enabling industry-leading data throughput of more than 1700 MB/sec over a 300 meter optical cable.
PLDA’s PCIe with DMA is a fully configurable PCI Express interface IP with integrated multi-channel DMA, targeted to Xilinx or Altera FPGAs. The EZDMA IP solution chosen by XIMEA features:
- Up to 8 DMA engines/channels
- Support for scatter-gather/DMA chaining
- Easy-to-use master/slave interface
- Configurable datapath width
“PLDA DMA IP is a very convenient and easy solution for starting your PCIe application,” said Michail Klimkovic, R&D Engineer for XIMEA.
According to Stephane Hauradou, CTO for PLDA, “Applications like the XIMEA camera highlight the constant need of easy-to-use IP solutions like the PLDA DMA IP because these solutions enable a much faster time-to-market and more effective integration.”
