Imagination and Oracle collaborate to enhance Java for embedded and the Internet of Things
Collaboration includes Java support for 32-bit and 64-bit MIPS architectures spanning embedded to networking and beyond
London, UK – 22nd May, 2014 – Imagination Technologies (IMG.L) announces a broad collaboration with Oracle Corp. intended to enhance Java for embedded and Internet of Things (IoT) applications and optimize Java for the MIPS CPU architecture.
Oracle and Imagination are working together to bring the Oracle JDK (Java Development Kit), Oracle Java SE Embedded, and other product support to MIPS32 and MIPS64 systems.
Java is the foundation for a broad range of networked applications and is a global standard for developing and delivering embedded, web-based and enterprise content, and applications.
With broad Java support for MIPS32 and MIPS64 instruction set architectures (ISAs), MIPS licensees can make use of this highly portable language and platform for a broad range of applications including routers, wireless access points, residential gateways, next-generation consumer premises equipment (CPE), other networking equipment, mobile devices, Internet of Things (IoT), embedded and more.
In addition, Imagination and Oracle will be working to improve Java on systems using Imagination’s PowerVR graphics.
