ARM(R)64 + GPU + IB is Now Ready: E4 Computer Engineering and Applied Micro Circuits Corporation Will Showcase the ARKA Server RK003, a Unique and Innovative Low-Power Platform for HPC
NEW ORLEANS, Nov. 12, 2014 -- E4 Computer Engineering, leading Italian manufacturer of hardware solutions for high performance computing and data center, and Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (Nasdaq:AMCC), a global leader in computing and connectivity solutions, have announced that the innovative low-power platform ARKA RK003 is now ready to hit the market and will be showcased for the first time at SC14 in New Orleans at E4 Computer Engineering booth #4029 and Applied Micro booth #1757.
The platform, originally launched at ISC14 last June, has been enhanced with new essential features to better address high performance computing (HPC) projects. The two major developments consist of a smaller form factor, 1U 17" short depth, ideal for high-density environments. The second addition is the implementation of Mellanox FDR Connect-X3 InfiniBand. The new features, combined with AppliedMicro's low-power X-Gene™ CPU processor architecture and high-performance, energy-efficient NVIDIA® Tesla® K20 GPU accelerators, enable the platform to deliver industry leading performance per watt. The ARKA RK003 addresses a wide range of HPC workloads, including bioinformatics, CAD/ CFD, imaging and computer vision, as well as data analytics.
"We are thrilled about the ARKA platform being into production and ready to hit the market," said Piero Altoè, Business Development Manager, E4 Computer Engineering. "AppliedMicro's X-Gene architecture has proven to be one of the most interesting devices to enable high-performance, low-power platforms that, at this moment in time, are fundamental for the future of HPC. Their professional yet creative approach to technology has proven to be crucial for the success of the platform. E4 is focused on creating HPC hardware platforms that can improve the work of scientists and researchers and we couldn't find a better partner than AppliedMicro to carry out and succeed in this challenge."
"X-Gene's revolutionary Server on a Chip™ architecture delivers the performance, power efficiency, and scalability required by high-performance computing and data center operators at the lowest total cost of ownership," said Gaurav Singh, Vice President of Technical Strategy at AppliedMicro. "We welcomed the challenge launched to us by E4 to develop something so innovative for HPC and we are very excited about the results."
"GPUs provide ARM64 server OEMs with the muscle needed for HPC, enabling them to build high-performance systems that maximize the ARM® architecture's power efficiency and system configurability," said Walter Mundt-Blum, VP Enterprise Sales EMEAI, at NVIDIA. "The new GPU-accelerated E4 ARKA RK003 server will provide customers with an expanded range of efficient, HPC-class computing options to drive compute-intensive workloads."
SC14 attendees will be able to attend an in-depth talk on the ARKA platform at the exhibitor forum in room #292 on Tuesday 18th November at 11:00.
