Altera licenses NetSpeed's Gemini - Configurable Cache Coherent Network-on-Chip IP
San Jose, Calif. -- May 13, 2015—NetSpeed Systems Inc., the supplier of on-chip network IP that is streamlining SoC design, announced today that Altera has licensed its Gemini cache coherent network-on-chip IP to offer its customers a highly configurable, latency optimized solution for today’s heterogeneous architecture designs.
“With the tremendous growth in IP integration, on-chip communication fabric has become central to system performance,” said Sundari Mitra, co-founder and CEO of NetSpeed. “Increasing numbers of CPU cores, computing clusters, GPUs and other IP blocks on an SoC have made chip integration and building cache coherent interconnects extremely complex. With Gemini, Altera customers using its industry-leading SoC FPGAs will have the ability to develop highly customized solutions that dramatically increase system performance, while easing the burden of system integration, and reducing development time and costs.”
“After thoroughly evaluating the available interconnect IP products, we chose NetSpeed’s Gemini because of its full coherency support, configurability, flexibility and scalability,” said Ty Garibay, Vice President of IC Engineering at Altera. “NetSpeed Gemini is the best on-chip network solution available that fully and effectively addresses the problems of cache coherency.”
About Gemini
Gemini is a high-performance, scalable, on-chip network IP solution that provides full cache coherency for small and large SoC designs. It supports all three levels of coherent traffic – cache coherent, I/O coherent & non-coherent traffic – in a single on-chip network. NetSpeed Gemini's unique architecture allows it to scale performance to match increasing coherency bandwidth. This allows NetSpeed Gemini to be used as NoC platform for entire product families. The underlying hardware elements, like the coherency controller, coherency directory and NoC router are designed for supporting higher throughput – Terabits per second – with low footprint. Gemini delivers high performance and significant time-to-market advantages to SoC designers for a wide range of markets, including mobile, networking and enterprise computing.
