INSIDE Secure Introduces a Single Chip USB Solution for Software Licensing, Authentication and the Latest FIDO Standard
INSIDE Secure MicroXsafeTM 6003 is a secure microcontroller that substantially reduces bill of materials (BOM) while extending battery life to 5 years and beyond
Aix-en-Provence, France September 15, 2015 - INSIDE Secure (Euronext Paris: INSD), a leader in embedded security solutions for mobile and connected devices, today announced availability of the MicroXsafe 6003 secure microcontroller, a single chip USB solution for software monetization and two-factor authentication to address key standards like FIDO. The MicroXsafe 6003 provides advanced security to address the growth in data breaches while lowering the bill of materials (BOM) when compared to traditional solutions that require both a smart card and USB chip architecture. The MicroXsafe 6003 is the industry’s only single chip solution that embeds a real-time clock (RTC) with low power consumption to further reduce costs and improve battery lifetime to 5 years or more.
“Increasingly frequent and public data breaches demonstrate the need for strong authentication solutions, like USB tokens, to allow employees to easily and securely access business services”, said Bernard Vian, Vice President, Secure Transactions at INSIDE Secure, “The unique design of MicroXsafe 6003 makes it the ideal solution for applications such as strong authentication USB tokens, software monetization, and two-factor authentication standards like FIDO.”
The need for strong authentication has never been greater as the average cost of a single data breach in the United States has sky rocketed to $3.8 million. The cost to an enterprise of each individual lost or stolen record also increased to $154 according to a 2015 Ponemon Institute report.
The need for strong authentication can also be supported by increasing market efforts such as the FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance, a coalition of leading vendors that has developed open specifications for stronger, more secure authentication. FIDO plans to change the nature of authentication by developing specifications that define an open, scalable, interoperable set of mechanisms that supplant reliance on passwords to securely authenticate users of online services. Many household names like Google and Dropbox are adding Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) security keys as an additional method for two-step verification, giving customers stronger authentication following the “FIDO Universal 2nd Factor (U2F)” specification from the FIDO Alliance.
Benefits of INSIDE Secure’s MicroXsafe 6003 include:
- Interoperable with the latest FIDO standard
- Uses market leading architecture based on the ARM® SecurCore® SC300
- Contains 1MB of Flash Memory to allow for flexibility in the design and functionality of the end product
- 10 year data retention and 500,000 write/erase cycles providing a long lifecycle
- Single chip solution that lowers overall bill of material (BOM) costs leveraging Real Time Clock and Electronic Discharge (ESD) features
In addition the MicroXsafe 6003 includes a large number of security features that prevent physical tampering, spying on the data or hacking of the chip.
The MicroXsafe 6003 is the newest member of the MicroXsafe product family which also includes the MicroXsafe 6001, a secure microcontroller designed specifically to provide secure element functionality to embedded systems.
