CAST Expands CAN Bus Solutions Suite with New PHY Daughter Card
WOODCLIFF LAKE, NJ USA -- March 14 2017 -- Semiconductor intellectual property provider CAST, Inc. today announced the availability of a new daughter card for connecting a system using a CAN controller to the physical CAN bus.
The new CANFD-RxTx High-Speed CAN FD Transceiver Daughter Card uses the Microchip® MCP2562FD Transceiver. This second-generation high-speed transceiver meets the automotive requirements of CAN FD bit rates exceeding 5 mbps, low quiescent current, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and electrostatic discharge (ESD). It also features a low propagation delay to support long bus lengths. The Daughter Card connects to a CAST or other CAN-compliant protocol controller via a 2x20 female pin connector—commonly found in FPGA and microcontroller boards—and to the CAN bus via standard DB-9 nine-pin D-subminiature connectors.
As part of CAST’s CANFD-RD CAN 2.0 and CAN FD FPGA Reference Design, the daughter card has been successfully tested in multiple CAN FD Plug Fests organized by CAN In Automation (CIA). During these Plug Fests, the Daughter Card successfully operated with bit rates exceeding 5 Mbps when connected to real-life networks and driven by CAST’s CAN bus controller IP core.
That CAN-CTRL Controller Core for CAN 2.0, CAN FD, and TTCAN offers the widest PHY support available, having been proven to work well with all popular physical CAN FD transceivers, including the Microchip on the Daughter Card and those from Denso Automotive, Infineon Technologies, NXP Semiconductors, and On Semiconductors. Avery Design Systems Verification IP for this CAN Controller Core is available through CAST, in a bundle with a thirty-day free license for the VIP.
CAST has provided CAN Bus IP for nearly ten years and its offerings ship in hundreds of thousands of customer products. The company believes its current CAN Bus suite of Controller Core, VIP, Reference Design, and now Daughter Card is the most fully-featured and real-world-tested CAN Bus IP solution on the market.
Developed by CAST’s engineering team in the Czech Republic, the CANFD-RxTx Daughter Card is shipping now. Contact CAST for details: www.cast-inc.com, info@cast-inc.com, or +1 201.391.8300.
