BEDFORD, MA – May 30, 2003 – Aware, Inc. (NASDAQ: AWRE), a worldwide leader and innovator of broadband intellectual property, will showcase its DSL technology offerings next week at SUPERCOMM 2003 in Atlanta, June 1 – 5, 2003 (Booth # 22261). Aware will feature several of its new silicon intellectual property offerings, including the StratiPHY2+™ intellectual property platform. StratiPHY2+ enables rapid integration of ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+ functionality into chipset designs and is available in silicon today for evaluation. Aware will also conduct the first live demonstrations of Reach-Extended ADSL2, as well as several ADSL2 features, including power management. The latest advances in Aware's Dr. DSL® suite of integrated diagnostics products will also be highlighted.
"This year's SUPERCOMM marks the beginning of a new era for Aware and the DSL industry," commented Michael Tzannes, chief executive officer of Aware. "The variety of applications and features enabled by the new ADSL2 standards provides carriers with an unprecedented opportunity to provide a broad range of profitable services."
In May 2003, Aware announced the immediate availability of StratiPHY2+, the industry's first ADSL2+ CPE intellectual property (IP) offering, fully compliant to the ITU standard. StratiPHY2+ is a complete physical instantiation of Aware's standard-compliant ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+, and Reach-Extended ADSL2 intellectual property available today for evaluation in the form of a single digital chip. As an essential WAN interface for broadband silicon providers, StratiPHY2+ joins the StratiPHY family of completely functional, manufacturable silicon IP offerings from Aware.
Reach-Extended ADSL2 (RE-ADSL2)
Aware's StratiPHY2+ solution also supports Reach-Extended ADSL2, which extends a 384 kbps downstream data rate to a distance in excess of 20,000 feet, effectively increasing the coverage area of carriers' DSL services by 20% or more. The RE-ADSL2 standard (ITU G.992.3 Annex L) has been technically frozen and is expected to officially join the ADSL2 standards family later this year. Aware's RE-ADSL2 solution will be fully compliant to the new standard and interoperable with ADSL and ADSL2 equipment. More details are included in a white paper available on the Aware website at http://www.aware.com/products/dsl/whitepapers.htm.
Dr. DSL Diagnostics for CO and CPE
Aware's Dr. DSL diagnostics software provides ADSL chips with embedded loop diagnostics to reduce provisioning costs, improve troubleshooting, and improve service level monitoring. Because Dr. DSL resides on the DSL chipset, it can be cost-effectively incorporated into any device with a DSL chip, including DSLAMs and test heads at the central office (CO) and a consumer's DSL modem. Aware will demonstrate Dr. DSL's single-ended DSL pre-qualification as well as advanced CPE tests to illustrate how Aware's Dr. DSL-enabled CO and CPE equipment can form a comprehensive testing architecture.
Aware, Inc. designs, develops, licenses and markets DSL technology that enables broadband communications over existing telephone networks. Its solutions, including splitterless G.lite, full-rate ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+, Dr. DSL®, StratiPHY™, StratiPHY2+™, BondedADSL™, and G.SHDSL address central office as well as customer premise requirements.
